Sustainability in the Operations of the South Karelia Recreation Area Foundation

The purpose of the South Karelia Recreation Area Foundation is, on a non-profit basis, to secure opportunities for the residents of the municipalities participating in the foundation’s activities to use areas and routes suitable for recreation, tourism, and leisure use in South Karelia. Visitors are also welcome to enjoy the South Karelian diverse nature and beautiful landscapes.

Our core activity is to take care of the construction, maintenance, and accessibility of hiking structures in our own recreation areas and in contractual sites. Together with our stakeholders, we participate in the development of hiking and nature tourism services, while safeguarding natural values and preserving the unique character of the landscape.

We operate in accordance with the principles of sustainable development and aim to improve the quality of our work in line with our values. We are committed to providing open, high-quality, and safe hiking services for everyone also in the future.

The South Karelia Recreation Area Foundation is committed to completing the seven stages of Visit Finland’s Sustainable Travel Finland programme, and the work began at the start of 2026.
