LUMO: Environmental projects promoting biodiversity

Ekvas aims to promote biodiversity, and in line with this, we are preparing two parallel environmental projects together with Saimaa Geopark—one for the Kärki-Leader area and one for the Leader Länsi-Saimaa area.
The goal of the projects is to strengthen sustainable development in the region by implementing biodiversity‑enhancing actions and increasing knowledge related to climate change adaptation.
A key objective is to encourage children and young people to take part in nature-positive activities.
As part of the project measures, information will be gathered on the biodiversity values of sites managed by the South Karelia Recreation Area Foundation and Saimaa Geopark, and guidance will be produced to support biodiversity-friendly nature management.
The projects will also communicate the health benefits of nature and develop a climate change adaptation plan for the maintenance operators of island, shoreline and riverine recreational infrastructure.

Funding for the projects is being applied for from the EU Rural Development Program via Leader Länsi-Saimaa and Kärki-Leader.
